Over the past 24 hours, U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) forces have successfully destroyed an Iran-backed Houthis ground control station in Houthis-controlled territory in Yemen.

According to a CENTCOM statement, “It was determined that this ground control station poses a clear and imminent threat to U.S. and coalition forces and commercial vessels in the region. This action was taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer for U.S., coalition, and commercial vessels.”

On Tuesday of this week, CENTCOM reported the destruction of two Houthi ships in the Red Sea and determined that they posed a “clear and imminent threat” to U.S. and coalition forces in the region.

“This reckless and dangerous behavior by the Iran-backed Houthis continues to threaten regional stability and security,” CENTCOM tweeted.

The Houthi movement in Yemen has attacked ships with links to Israel in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. These actions are portrayed as a sign of support for Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Red Sea is an important sea route and plays a crucial role in the global transport of oil and fuel.

On August 9, USCENTCOM forces successfully destroyed an Iran-backed Houthis missile launcher and an unmanned surface vessel in Houthis-controlled areas of Yemen. In addition, USCENTCOM forces successfully destroyed two Houthis unmanned aerial vehicles over the Red Sea.

“These weapons posed a clear and imminent threat to U.S. and coalition forces and commercial vessels in the region. This reckless and dangerous behavior by the Iran-backed Houthis continues to threaten regional stability and security,” CENTCOM said.
