A New York politician asked, “Don’t you know who I am?” when he was denied boarding on an American Airlines flight. But the gate agent didn’t know and didn’t care.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy was on his way to the Democratic National Convention but missed his flight when he left the gate area to get a Chick-fil-A sandwich. When he returned, the boarding doors of his flight were closed.

The FAA reported Wednesday that it referred 43 passenger incident cases to the FBI last year. That’s 1,240 cases reported by airlines to the FAA — that sounds like a lot, but about 820 million domestic passengers were carried in the U.S. last year. And the number of incidents is down 80% compared to 2021, when there were far fewer passengers.

Hip-hop star Juvenile (Terius Gray) was kicked out of American Airlines’ first class. His wife was allowed to stay in the overbooked cabin. But rather than endure the humiliation of American’s main cabin, he left the plane – declaring himself a celebrity and that American made a mistake in denying him a seat.
