As the weather gets cooler, it’s time to think about fall. And what better way to start the new season than with a delicious meal?

For our second poll, The Record wants to know who has the best pho in Stockton.

The Record has identified nine Stockton restaurants that have pho on their menu. The restaurant with the most votes will be featured at the end of the two-week survey.

What is Pho?

Pho is a Vietnamese soup with broth, rice noodles, herbs and meat. Pho or Phở is pronounced “fuh”.

“Most food historians trace the origins of pho to the late 19th century, when Vietnam was colonized by the French. Before the arrival of the French colonialists, the Vietnamese did not eat beef (although they occasionally ate water buffalo). However, meat soups were not uncommon in Vietnam at the time,” says Encyclopaedia Britannica, a fact-checked online encyclopedia. “It is believed that pho originated when Vietnamese villagers added French beef to bánh đa cua, which probably happened in northern Vietnam near the country’s capital, Hanoi.”

Vietnamese restaurants in Stockton serve pho with a variety of protein options, including beef, chicken and tofu.
