Walk-off home run defeats Baysox on Thursday night :(

The Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, lost 4-2 to the Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field with a walk-off home run in the ninth inning.

With Bowie (20-22, 52-58) was leading 2-1 when he entered the bottom half of the ninth inning, a one-out single and two-out catcher interference brought Jase Bowen to bat against the right-hander Cameron Weston (N, 5-7). With his final at-bat, Bowen hit a three-run walk-off home run to left to win the game for the Curve and end their four-game losing streak.

Due to the strong starting pitchers, the game remained scoreless in the first five and a half innings. The right-handed starter Carlos Tavera threw five scoreless innings with three strikeouts and zero walks in a no-decision. The 25-year-old has now thrown 21.2 consecutive scoreless innings on the road.

For Altoona, right-handed starter Grant Ford threw three scoreless innings and left-handed reliever Nick Dombkowski threw four scoreless, hitless innings with four strikeouts.

Altoona (17-25, 46-65) scored the first run of the game in the sixth inning on a balk by Weston with a runner on third base.

The Baysox tied the score at 1:1 in the eighth inning. Frederick Bencosme came off the bench to score a leadoff walk,Dylan Beavers brought him to second base with a single before a wild pitch put both runners in favorable position. Samuel Basallo Bencosme brought home a grounder to second base.

In the ninth Reed Trimble reached with an infield hit before scoring with a two-out single from Anthony Servideo. Against left-hander Cy Nielson (W, 1-1), Bencosme hit an RBI single to right-center field to give Bowie a 2-1 lead and its first lead of the game.

The Baysox are currently 4-6 in games that end in walk-offs.

The Baysox continue their six-game road series against the Curve tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Peoples Natural Gas Field. RHP Trace Bright (0-10, 4.55 ERA) is scheduled to start for Bowie against RHP Drake Fellows (2-4, 5.29 ERA) for Altoona.

The Baysox’s next home game is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20th through Sunday, August 25th against the Erie SeaWolves, the Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

Specials for Tuesday include Military Appreciation Night with a half-price box ticket for those who show proof of military service. Wednesday is Woof Wednesday where all leashed and properly vaccinated dogs are welcome. Thursday is Baysox Live Happy Hour with live music by Terry Glaze and beer specials from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. presented by Bud Light. Friday is Sneakerdome Night with a special sneaker display on the concourse. The City of Crofton is also celebrating its 60th anniversary. Saturday is Pluto Demotion Night and Bowie Pit Beef Night where game-worn pit beef jerseys will be auctioned online to support Hope House Treatment Centers. There will also be fireworks after the game. Sunday is Family Fun Day with players signing autographs before the game and all the fans running to the bases after the game.
