Walmart reportedly offers Burger King discounts with a Walmart+ subscription

Walmart+ subscriptions are sluggish. Consumers are complaining about high prices at fast food restaurants. Do these two facts have anything in common?

Executives at Walmart have reportedly found a connection. The Wall Street Journal reports that the retail giant will offer discounts at Burger King to customers who subscribe to Walmart+.

Currently, Walmart+ members get free shipping on purchases and free access to Paramount+ at a full membership price of $98 per year. The Journal quotes Walmart executives as saying that the member benefits will now be extended to the burger chain.

Now Walmart+ members get 25% off digital orders at Burger King. Starting in September, member benefits include a free Whopper every three months when they purchase anything else at Burger King.

According to the Journal, Walmart data shows that Walmart+ members spend a lot of money at fast-food restaurants – significantly more than the general population. The data also shows that Burger King is considered the most popular fast-food restaurant among members.

Will the combination work? Walmart will know when customer retention rates for Walmart+ improve.

Due to rising inflation, the subscription model is under pressure as many consumers look for ways to reduce their spending or opt out of the subscription beyond the free trial period.
