Warming up for the first week of fall in Utah

Warming up for the first week of fall in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy first full day of fall! We’re starting this week with seasonal temperatures across the state and dry skies. Daytime highs will be above 77 degrees in most, with some even possible above 80 degrees.

Temperatures will be just above 20 degrees at higher elevations, while the southwestern corner of the state will reach 35 degrees. Today is forecast to be sunny, with scattered clouds and no precipitation.

Bottom line? It’s a quiet first week of fall, but a significant warming is on the way.

A strong ridge of high pressure will settle into the western United States starting tomorrow morning. High pressure usually means calm conditions and rising temperatures, and that’s exactly what we’re in for during the work week.

Tomorrow we will experience maximum temperatures between 27 and 30 degrees in most areas and between 35 and 40 degrees in the warm regions.

By mid-week, we’ll reach temperatures about 10 degrees above average across the state. Hot air from the desert southwest will be swept along by southerly winds and carried as far as northern Utah. The Wasatch Front could reach temperatures in the high 30s, approaching 90 degrees, and the St. George area will see temperatures in the low 35s and high 35s. Temperatures will slowly decrease by Friday, but they’ll still be well above average.

The high pressure system has the region firmly in its grip, so it will remain very pleasant all week. Enjoy this summer break before it’s over!
