CAROLINA BEACH, NC – A powerful storm system known as Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight swept across the North Carolina coast on Monday, bringing torrential rains and strong winds.

The extreme precipitationan event that only occurs once every thousand years, led to widespread and destructive flooding.

Eitan Feldstein, sailing from Cape Canaveral to the Chesapeake Bay, captured the intensity of the storm on video. Due to severe weather conditions, his boat was forced to seek shelter in Carolina Beach.

“Unfortunately, we just got caught in the middle,” said Feldstein. “We set sail on September 4, fought against the weather and just kept going.”

North Carolina was hit by historic rainfall as a strong non-tropical storm moved ashore

Feldstein said they were the only boat that didn’t dock, but it was reassuring to know that no boat would break loose and collide with them.

“The storm was much stronger than we expected,” he added.

According to the NWS, a flash flood warning remained in effect for the region until Monday evening.
