Watch: “MVP” chants break out after TJ Watts’ dismissal

Before the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers met in Week 3 at Acrisure Stadium, the focus was primarily on the duel between Steelers star TJ Watt and the Chargers’ impressive rookie right tackle Joe Alt.

As expected, Watt was superior to him, and in a huge situation.

On a third down in the fourth quarter, Watt ran home and sacked Chargers backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who was in the game due to an ankle injury to Justin Herbert.

The sack forced a punt by the Chargers and was Watts’ 99.5th sack of his career.

Shortly after the sack, as the Chargers’ punt was in the air, Steelers fans at Acrisure Stadium showered TJ Watt with chants of “MVP!”

Take a listen.

The “MVP” chant comes from the heart and the fans believe it completely.

Watt is the best pass rusher in football, period, and he proves it week after week. He also has a knack for coming up with game-winning plays in key situations. That’s not luck, it’s skill.

While a defensive player will probably never again be in the MVP discussion in an NFL league where the emphasis is on offensive power, Watt is clearly the Steelers’ MVP.

Watt was named the 2023 Steelers team MVP, the fourth time in five years he has received that honor from his teammates.

This season, he’s well on his way to doing it again: In the first three weeks of the season, he recorded three sacks and came up with game-winning plays every week.
