Watching other Cubs home runs in the park and timing them because it’s fun

Watching other Cubs home runs in the park and timing them because it’s fun

After Pete Crow-Armstrong hit the first (and possibly several!) inside-the-park home runs of his career, the Cubs’ other recent inside-the-park home runs naturally came up.

Specifically, I saw the following:

I remember every single one, but I wanted to share the videos again so we can all have fun—there are few things in this game as fun as Inside the Parker—and also break out the good old stopwatch to see how their times compare to PCA’s 14.08 seconds (the fastest this year and the third fastest in the last decade).

First, two years ago there was Seiya Suzuki against the Brewers and against Josh Hader. It was great:

Because Seiya hit a home run right at the start and because he’s fast, that was actually one of the fastest inside-the-park home runs you’ll see – I timed it at 14.92 seconds. Pretty fast, but still almost a second slower than PCA’s last night.

Next up was Javy Báez in San Francisco in 2017, where he just kept running:

Báez watched the whole thing from the box for a bit before picking up speed, and it cost him on the stopwatch: 15.31 seconds. I guess Javy was a bit faster then than Seiya was two years ago, the difference was the start.

Next we have Anthony Rizzo! Remember this one that actually required a massive kick from an outfielder to turn into a home run:

As expected, Rizzo’s trot was the slowest of all at 17.05 seconds. Probably still a lot faster than I could have managed!

As a bonus, I had to share what came to mind the most while watching PCA do his incredibly fast thing. It’s Tony Campana time:

OK, so I have 13.94 seconds on my phone’s timer and I tried it a couple of times to make sure that was the right range. I think Campana may have beaten PCA by a tiny bit in terms of inside-the-park home run speed, which I guess is a reminder of how fast Campana was.

Even more Cubs home runs inside the stadium if you can’t get enough of them:
