Weather in Orlando: Flood warnings after torrential rains in Orange and Seminole counties

Heavy afternoon rains caused severe flooding in parts of Central Florida on Wednesday.

A FOX 35 news crew observed large areas of standing water and overflowing sewers along Red Bug Lake and Tuskawilla roads in Casselberry.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for the Little Wekiva River and parts of Orange and Seminole counties, where about 3 to 5 inches of rain had fallen. Flood warnings were also issued for the rest of Orange County and parts of Osceola County near St. Cloud.

Similar conditions with warm temperatures are expected to continue into the evening.

The NWS said heavy rains will increase the risk of flooding in urban areas and areas with poor drainage, which are precisely the places that have already experienced significant rainfall in recent days and are at increased risk.

Flooding in Casselberry on September 4, 2024.

OUTLOOK: Thursday will see a repeat of today, with highs near normal around 35 degrees and heat index values as high as 39-42 degrees. There is a high to moderate risk of rip currents on the region’s beaches. A high chance of showers and thunderstorms is also expected next week.
