Week 1 IDP Matchups to Use and Streaming Options

Week 1 IDP Matchups to Use and Streaming Options

Sure, ideally you’ve assembled a “set it and forget it” IDP roster, making this column useless to you all season long. First, thanks for clicking on it anyway, and second, congratulations on your upcoming 2024 fantasy title. You can’t see me, but I’m giving you a standing ovation right now.

You’re probably still reading this even though you were so dominant on draft day. That’s because things never go exactly as planned. Players get injured and don’t perform at their best, and there are cases where there’s a better starting option on your league’s waiver list than the one at the bottom of your roster. That’s where I come in to help you.

Now, streamers in Week 1 are a bit unusual unless your draft is completely out of whack. The Waiver Wire column should be helpful as well, but I want to use this space weekly to highlight some of the best matchup spots on the roster, along with the corresponding defenders who could benefit from them.

Sometimes I’ll point to a player who’s on the roster in nearly every IDP league, but maybe this will help you with a potential start/sit decision you’ve been wrestling with.

There’s a lot of variance in how players score fantasy points on defense, but the most promising skill is tackles. It provides a predictable floor for all players, whereas other categories like interceptions and touchdowns are so difficult to predict from year to year, let alone week to week. But there’s a subjectivity you can exploit that doesn’t exist with other stats.

A reception, for example, is a binary outcome. Either a ball is caught or not. But a tackle and who gets credited for it on the score sheet is entirely at the discretion of the official scorekeeper for the game. Was that a solo tackle or an assist? This presents an exploitable opportunity for IDP players.

In this space, weekly objectives range from individual players and position groups to entire defensive units. IDP leagues are like snowflakes, so if you have specific questions, hop into our subscriber Discord, find the IDP channel, and tag me with any questions you have. Some of you play in leagues where all of these players are already on the roster, and some of you play in IDP leagues where only 3-4 players on each team are on the roster, so the players listed below may not even be on your radar, so don’t be afraid to reach out.
