Weekly fuel report, gas prices down

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship released its weekly fuel report and the price of regular unleaded gasoline fell 8 cents, averaging $3.18 in Iowa, according to AAA.

Crude Oil – Summary

  • The global price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil fell by $5.90 per barrel this week compared to last week and is currently at $72.66.
  • The price of Brent crude oil fell by $4.08 and is currently at $76.87.
  • A year ago, WTI oil cost $80.35 and Brent oil cost $84.70.

Fuels

  • According to AAA, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa on Thursday was $3.18.
    • Prices have fallen by 8 cents compared to the previous week and are 47 cents below the previous year’s figure.
    • The national average price was $3.39 on Wednesday, 6 cents less than the previous week.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa fell 1 cent this week, averaging $3.49 statewide.
    • A year ago, the average price of diesel in Iowa was $4.11.
    • The current diesel price in Iowa is 24 cents below the national average of $3.73.
  • The wholesale price of ethanol remained stable and is currently at $2.16.
  • Current terminal/rack prices in Des Moines are $2.15 for U87-E10, $2.41 for 87 unleaded (clear), $2.34 for ULSD#2, $2.61 for ULSD#1, and $2.02 per gallon for E-70.

Fuels

  • At the Henry Hub reporting site, natural gas prices fell by 16 cents and are currently at USD 2.05/MMbtu.
  • During the entire summer months, we will report Iowa retail heating oil and propane prices only once per month.
