Weirton’s Mount Olive Baptist celebrates milestone with food, festivities and fellowship

Mount Olive Baptist Church in Weirton celebrated a significant milestone in the church: 107 years of ministry with its faithful members.

Pastor Rudy McAllister, who has led the church for the past 15 years, attributes the church’s longevity to both divine power and the resilience of its congregation.

“The key is that God is the strength that sustains us, but I think a lot of times it’s the people. The people who have the strength to do what they need to do and who just love coming here because this church is open to everyone,” said Pastor Rudy McAllister of Mount Olive Baptist Church.

McAllister said Mount Olive Baptist Church is a monument that other churches need to care about as it has served its members for 107 years and beyond.

“Many churches are no longer standing. Many churches are closing. Even though we have a small congregation, we are making progress and the church is thriving,” McAllister said.

This milestone was marked by a celebration with food, festivities and a special visit from the pastor and choir of Macedonia Baptist Church who participated in the festivities.

McAllister said the church has unique qualities because of its long history and its welcoming and inclusive environment.

“It’s the kind of church where people come and feel welcome. They feel comfortable no matter what their background or ethnicity is. People just love coming here and I think that’s what’s unique about it. We’re always here to help the community,” McAllister said.

Looking to the future, McAllister said he hopes to be there for the 108th celebration next year and hopes the church will continue to serve its members and community for years to come.
