West Baton Rouge, Iberville and Pointe Coupee prepare for Francine

West Baton Rouge, Iberville and Pointe Coupee prepare for Francine

In Iberville Parish, emergency crews began work early Monday morning filling sandbags in preparation for Hurricane Francine’s landfall.

“We are currently working on our twelfth truckload, shipping sandbags to over 15 locations in Iberville Parish,” said Chris Daigle, President of Iberville Parish.

He added that road workers were moving around the community to prepare barricades for flooded areas.

“LA-1 in Plaquemine,” Daigle said. “That’s always a flood-prone area.”

In West Baton Rouge, officials told WBRZ that street and sanitation workers were clearing debris.

“Our drainage department monitors our major canals and so on and makes sure there are no obstructions in front of the culverts,” said Jason Manola, president of the West Baton Rouge Parish.

Stephen Dabadie, director of the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness in Pointe Coupee, urged people to stay off the roads during the storm and to have hurricane gear ready.

“Make sure they have water and food. There is a possibility of a power outage. So put together these little hurricane preparedness packages,” Dabadie said.

Dabadie recommends that people complete their hurricane kit by Tuesday afternoon at the latest.
