West Central Fire Department announces plans for new station

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The West Central Fire District provides fire and emergency protection to the people of Aboite and Lake Townships in Allen County. But in order to continue providing its services, some officials say a new fire station is essential to meet the needs in the area.

On Tuesday, county fire officials unveiled a new plan to build a station between the Aboite and Arcola sites.

The money has to come from somewhere. So taxpayers will pay for it. We asked the West Central Fire Department spokesperson and he said taxpayers should not expect to pay more than they already pay. There are also opponents of the project who believe it would cost taxpayers even more money.

Some residents also believe that the focus should be on renovating the existing stations rather than starting from scratch. However, the fire chief argues that both current stations are outdated and that unexpected problems could arise during renovation.

The fire chief and his staff will present this proposal at the Allen County Council meeting on Wednesday evening.
