West Park home fire under investigation – NBC 6 South Florida

West Park home fire under investigation – NBC 6 South Florida

A family of three had to evacuate their home in Broward County after a fire on Thursday morning.

Flames are now out at the house on SW 32nd Court, off Hallandale Beach Boulevard in West Park, but that was not the case at 4:15 a.m.

The Broward Sheriff’s Fire Department said emergency crews saw smoke rising from the front of the single-family home while residents stood outside waiting for help.

The fire department said 30 firefighters were on site. They found the source of the fire in a bedroom and quickly extinguished it, “which mainly confined the flames to the fire room.”

Authorities believe the fire may have been accidentally started by a resident.

“Although the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, there was significant secondary smoke damage to the house,” BSFR said.

At 6 a.m. there was still a lot to see as firefighters continued to spray water and use an axe to chop off various sections of drywall.

A distraught homeowner, who did not want to speak on camera, confirmed that the fire started in a bedroom. He said no one was injured and that the pets also made it outside in time.

The video shows burnt windows and ashes on the door.

The Red Cross will help the displaced family.
