Six years after she and her husband closed their longtime business in West Seattle Junction Terjung’s House of Gifts (4547 California, now Jet City Labs), Gloria Terjung has passed away. Here is the memory we received today:
Gloria Marie Terjung (Pucci)
February 24, 1930 – August 3, 2024It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Marie Terjung (Pucci), our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Gloria is now joined by her beloved husband Gregor, who passed away in January 2023.
Gloria lived in West Seattle her entire life and was a proud and active member of her community. The daughter of Peter and Ethel Pucci, she grew up in the Italian neighborhood of Youngstown in West Seattle. Her family eventually moved three times: to Fort Lawton in the Magnolia area, to Black Diamond on Lake Sawyer, and then to the Morgan Junction area of West Seattle. As an adult, Gloria moved four more times within the West Seattle area. She attended Frank B Cooper School, West Seattle High School, and graduated from Tahoma High School in 1947. In the fall of 1950, she married Gregor.
Gloria’s career path was one of dedication and excellence. She began with office jobs at John Hancock and Boeing and worked as an assistant to the director of the Seattle Housing Authority for over 30 years. She also assisted her husband, Gregor, with the day-to-day operations of the family business, Terjung’s Studio of Gifts in West Seattle Junction, for over 50 years. Her commitment extended beyond the workplace, as she was a member of Soroptimist International of West Seattle, where she worked to improve the lives of women and families in her community.
A woman of many passions, Gloria enjoyed gardening, sewing, camping, accounting, boating, tennis, painting, playing the piano, her grandson’s clarinet, ice cream, popcorn, clam chowder, and the color blue. Her cooking was well known among family and friends, especially her famous spaghetti sauce, potato salad, and apple pie, which will be fondly remembered at family gatherings.
Gloria was known for her strong determination, tireless work ethic and devotion to her loved ones. Her presence was a source of strength and inspiration, and her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
Gloria leaves behind her daughters Gina McCullough Grohs and Gail Spores (Beldon), her grandson Reis McCullough (Azusa), her great-granddaughter Noelle, her sister Marlene Schlittler, her niece Donna Irving and her nephew Craig Schlittler, all of whom will remember her spirit, laughter and love for her family.
