What seniors need to know!

According to AL, just months after closing its health centers, Walmart will reinstate primary care services through a new partnership with CenterWell, the health services division of Humana Inc. CenterWell will establish senior-focused primary care centers at 23 Walmart Supercenter locations, initially in Florida, Georgia, Missouri and Texas. These centers will occupy space previously used by Walmart Health.

The opening of the new in-store centers is planned for the first half of 2025.

“CenterWell is committed to providing seniors with high-quality, accessible, comprehensive and personalized healthcare,” said Sanjay Shetty, MD, president of CenterWell. “These nearly two dozen primary care centers are specifically designed to meet the needs of seniors and include features such as private entrances and convenient parking to ensure the accessibility patients expect from our clinics across the country.”

The clinics will employ a range of healthcare professionals, including registered physicians, nurse practitioners and medical assistants. In addition, care consultants, social workers, behavioral therapists and clinical pharmacists will support the healthcare teams.

In conjunction with the in-store clinics, CenterWell will also open senior-focused primary care centers adjacent to Walmart Supercenters in Tampa/St. Petersburg, Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth and Kansas City.

In May, Walmart announced the closure of 51 medical centers in its stores that had been in operation for five years. Although Walmart Health and Walmart Health Virtual Care centers have been closed in five states, the retail chain continues to operate nearly 4,600 pharmacies and 3,000 vision centers.
