“What the hell is going on here?” Walmart customer is upset about the 15-item limit at the self-checkout – “rude” staff checks the shopping carts

A troubled Walmart store has come under fire from an angry customer for limiting the number of items at the self-checkout counter to 15 and allegedly rude staff.

The buyer vented his frustration with the store at X, sharply criticizing the customer service and accusing the store of not caring about its regular customers.

Walmart is located in Catskill, New York, about two and a half hours north of New York City.

The customer claimed that the staff were “rude” and complained about the 15-item limit.

The angry shopper wrote: “@Walmart what the heck is going on at your Catskill store?

“All self-checkouts have a maximum of 15 items and the employees are rude and check how many items you have.”

“You opened two cash registers to all other cash registers. Tell us how you don’t care about your customers.”

Walmart responded to the customer and asked him to send the retail giant a private message.

“Your shopping experience is our top priority. Feel free to DM us whenever it suits you.”

It is unclear whether Walmart and the buyer discussed the matter further.

ANGRY REVIEWS

Other customers were angry about their experiences at the Walmart in Catskill, which currently has only a two-star rating on Yelp.

In July 2023, a customer gave the store a one-star review on Yelp, claiming he was overpaid by nearly $51 and urging other shoppers to check their receipts.

“What’s the point?” Walmart customers ask when the store introduces a limit on self-checkouts – but only has two checkouts open

“I entered two items twice and paid an extra $51. I’m glad I noticed this because for the 12 or so items I purchased, the bill seemed too high,” he wrote.

“I don’t usually check because I trust the company to train honest employees… When I pointed out the employee’s mistake, he grinned and told me to contact customer service for a refund. Not cool.”

In December 2023, another customer left a one-star review complaining about the store’s auto center.

“The auto center defaced my wheels and refused to give me my tires until I paid $77.76…

What is Walmart Scan and Go?

Walmart’s Scan and Go is designed to save shoppers time

Walmart’s Scan and Go system is designed to allow customers to scan items as they shop, pay, and exit the checkout line without having to wait in long checkout lines.

The retailer describes setting up the new system as being done in just a few simple steps:

  • Customers must first download the Walmart app to their phone and enable location access.
  • On the Store Mode landing page, shoppers must click the “Scan to Go” option.
  • Customers can scan any item and add it to their shopping cart while shopping.
  • At the end, you will be asked to view the shopping cart to make sure the quantity in the app matches the quantity in your cart.
  • Shoppers press “Checkout” and go to a self-checkout kiosk.
  • You will be asked to scan the QR code provided at checkout and confirm your payment method.
  • Once the transaction is complete, customers can leave the store without worry.

“The answer I got was, ‘If you want to do something about it, you can talk to the chief engineer, he’ll be here tomorrow between 7am and 4pm.'”

In May 2022, the Walmart store in Catskill received another bad review from a shopper who complained about the lack of cashiers.

“A cashier is serving customers, guys, call the store and make your presence known!!!” wrote the customer.

“I told the person that if no other cashier was available, I would leave my cart and leave.”

Many other Walmart customers are frustrated with the retailer’s self-checkout system.

In August 2024, a customer was angry because he was forced to use the self-checkout kiosks and also complained about the store’s bags.

The buyer responded to a post by X that read: “I have a dream…that one day I’ll wake up, scroll through the news, and not say ‘F’ once. Pray for me.”

“I’m trying to get through the self-checkout in the store without swearing. I can sometimes manage French fries,” wrote the angry customer.

“The Walmart bags stick together and I end up throwing a few of the damn things on the floor trying to find one that opens while cursing under my breath.”

Another shopper was annoyed by the retail giant’s long lines at self-checkout lanes and the lack of cashiers.

“Walmart is total garbage… no cashiers and 30 people in line at the self-checkout… this store is worthless…” the shopper wrote in a Facebook post in February.
