Every four years, the world cheers and watches in awe as athletes demonstrate incredible physical feats of resilience, skill and strength – and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris were no exception, providing spectators with unforgettable moments!

As the 2024 Olympic Games draw to a close, the final hurrah is scheduled for Sunday – the closing ceremony.

Here’s what you need to know about the closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The final event of the 2024 Paris Olympics is the women’s basketball final, with kickoff scheduled for Sunday at 9:30 a.m. EDT at Bercy Arena. In the women’s quarterfinals on Wednesday, the United States, France, Belgium and Australia advanced to the semifinals, which will be played on Friday.

Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead have been selected by Team USA to lead the country’s Olympic team at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics on Sunday.

Ledecky won four swimming medals in Paris, becoming the most successful American athlete in Olympic history.

“It is an incredible honor to represent Team USA as the flag bearer as we conclude our time together in Paris,” Ledecky said in a statement. “I am so proud of this team’s accomplishments in Paris and look forward to celebrating with my teammates on Sunday.”

Mead was part of the U.S. team’s first gold medal in men’s four since 1960.

The traditional highlights of the major event include the parade of athletes and the handover of the Olympic flag to the organizers of the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. There will also be a medal ceremony – for the women’s marathon this morning.

The event will be led by the same artistic director as the opening ceremony – Thomas Jolly.

Organizers recently said in a statement that “over a hundred artists, acrobats, dancers and circus performers” will be taking part.

There will be musical performances and “the participation of world-renowned singers will complete the picture. … Part of the show will take place in the air, while the huge sets, costumes and spectacular lighting effects will take the audience on a journey through time, past and future.”

Jolly added: “It is a very visual, very choreographic, very acrobatic show with an operatic dimension to provide a great visual fresco and to say goodbye to athletes from all over the world.”

If the rumors are true, the star of “Mission Impossible” may be about to perform his most spectacular feat yet.

This week, French media reported that Cruise, who is currently in Europe filming “Mission: Impossible 8” and has been spotted in the stands at several Olympic events in Paris, including gymnastics, swimming and athletics, will perform a stunt at the closing ceremony, to be held at the Stade de France. Part of his performance will include pre-recorded scenes.

The closing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday and last until approximately 5:15 p.m. EDT.

However, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will take place at the Stade de France, where the rugby and athletics competitions were held this year.

The closing ceremony will air live on NBC beginning August 11 at 2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT and will be streamed live on Peacock and NBCOlympics.com.
