Wheeling Park, Wheeling Central prepare for regular season with practice game | News, Sports, Jobs

WHEELING — In a matchup not often seen on the field, the Wheeling Park High School girls soccer team earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the Wheeling Central girls Tuesday night. The game was played on the new turf at Wheeling Island Stadium in front of several hundred fans.

Park scored early when sophomore Juniper Gandee grabbed a deflection and put the ball in the net. Junior forward Julia Dunaway scored a second goal late in the game when she broke away from a center back and beat the goalkeeper.

The game will be the first soccer game between Park and Central in at least five years.
