There are now less than two weeks until the official start of fall.

Here’s what you should know:

Technically speaking, you could call it both.

Autumn is the oldest word used to describe the season between summer and winter. However, in the 17th century, some people began shortening the season to “fall,” in reference to the phrase “fall of the leaves” often used by poets, according to Merriam-Webster.

Summertime ends on Sunday, November 3rd, at 2 a.m. local time. This means that the clocks go back and we can sleep an extra hour that day.

Daylight saving time begins again on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
