Where is my fridge? Best Buy uses AI for live delivery tracking

MINNEAPOLIS – Thanks to AI technology, Best Buy customers can now find out down to the minute when their big-screen TV will be delivered or when a new refrigerator will arrive for installation.

On Thursday, the electronics retailer unveiled the bulk delivery feature, which can be accessed through Best Buy’s mobile app and website. The Richfield-based company says the new feature will use forecasted demand and real-time data on traffic patterns to help reduce delivery times and give customers more accurate and up-to-the-minute information on when products will arrive.

“Our new live delivery tracking eliminates the frustration so many of us feel when we have a window of time to wait at home for an appointment or major delivery,” said Brian Tilzer, chief digital, analytics and technology officer at Best Buy, in a statement. “We know our customers’ time is extremely valuable, and we’re proud to offer a level of convenience in technology delivery and installation that no one else currently offers.”

Best Buy has developed several AI-powered tools in recent months, including a module for customer service agents that helps evaluate customer conversations and summarize dialogue. This summer, Best Buy also launched an AI-powered virtual assistant that helps customers troubleshoot product issues, delivery changes, and other problems, among other things.
