I love breakfast, but I usually make it myself. When we visit friends and family, we go out for breakfast. And like I said, I LOVE breakfast for dinner, so if I can find a great place that serves breakfast all day, that’s a win.
When I cook, I usually make a stir-fry, but when I go out, I usually choose French toast. I drive to Northern Utah regularly and was looking for a great breakfast place when I came across this review in the Deseret News:
The best breakfast in Utah – Sweet Lake Biscuits and Limeade
“This restaurant in Utah County and Salt Lake County has amazing biscuits. The most famous dish here is the Hoss, but I usually get the Garden Benedict, which is excellent. The hash on the side is interesting – it has quinoa in it – I recommend trying it either as a side or in the Garden Hash. This place is great because there are so many options. If you’re looking for a place with a focused menu that still offers variety, I recommend this one.”
I looked at the menu and there are several things that sound amazing! For example, a Habanero Hot Chocolate sounds amazing. Loaded Hash with Jalapeno, Bacon and Cheese sounds great too! And Bread Pudding French Toast sounds like heaven in a bowl. You can check out the entire menu here: Sweet Lake Biscuits and Limeade
Local ingredients, freshly prepared food, and cookies baked fresh daily. I have to try this! AND they serve breakfast ALL DAY! Yay! I’ll tell you how great it is.
Chili’s Bar and Grill locations are closing across the country. In 2023, the chain closed 16 different locations in Tennessee, Virginia, and California. To me, the Chili’s location in St. George seems to be well-trafficked enough to stay open, although I have no way of measuring that. In Cedar City, the Chili’s parking lot seems pretty full when I drive by. But is that enough to avoid the closure cuts? I’d be worried about my job at that point.
One location in South Portland, Maine, that just closed reportedly gave its employees only a few days’ notice before they would lose their jobs. That’s two days more notice than I’ve ever heard of when a company decides to close.
When sales drop and a lease expires or a remodel is necessary, you as a business owner have to scrutinize the numbers to see if it’s worth continuing to invest. Inflation is out of control and rents are insanely high.
According to MSN, Chili’s has closed three more locations this year: The Fort Wayne, Indiana, and St. Joseph, Missouri, locations, as well as a location in Charlotte, North Carolina. And I’m sure there are more to come. If I worked at Chili’s right now, I would quietly look for another job. Loyalty just doesn’t seem to be an issue anymore. Not only have I criticized Chili’s, I personally know far too many incredible employees who are simply let go without notice.
It seems to me that the workforce used to care about hard-working people. On the other hand, companies are struggling to get their employees to come to work, let alone be on time. So the problem is not just loyalty, but reliability. Now it’s every man for himself.
I hope we keep our local Chili’s. I hope we keep the jobs here. If you love Chili’s, go tell them you love their food and don’t forget to tip for the great service.
