Whole Foods gives its customers the opportunity to help reduce food waste by offering a “mystery bag” of surplus food at a reduced price.
According to a press release, the initiative includes “surprise bags of ready meals” filled with items such as soups and ready meals, as well as “surprise bags of baked goods.”
Whole Foods’ “mystery bags” are sold through the app of social impact company Too Good to Go.
The bags are a partnership to combat global food waste. Whole Foods is working with this and other measures to halve its food waste by 2030.

Whole Foods and Too Good to Go have set the price for the “Prepared Foods Surprise Bags” at $9.99 ($30 worth of groceries) and the “Bakery Surprise Bags” at $6.99 ($21 worth of groceries), the companies said.
The prices could be attractive to inflation-stricken consumers who have been looking for bargains and ways to save money on grocery shopping in recent months.
