Whole Foods gives its customers the opportunity to help reduce food waste by offering a “mystery bag” of surplus food at a reduced price.
The initiative includes “surprise bags of ready meals” filled with items such as Soups and ready meals and “bakery surprise bags” full of baked goods, according to a press release.
The Whole foods “Surprise bags” are sold via the app of the social impact company Too Good to Go.
The bags are a partnership to combat global food waste. Whole Foods is working with this and other measures to halve its food waste by 2030.
The partnership between Too Good to Go and Whole Foods launched nationwide last month, with more than 450 Whole Foods locations across the country donating excess food for the “mystery bags.”
Whole Foods has more than 500 grocery stores in the US and nearly 20 in Canada and the UK
Whole Foods and Too Good to Go have set the price for the “Prepared Foods Surprise Bags” at $9.99 ($30 worth of groceries) and the “Bakery Surprise Bags” at $6.99 ($21 worth of groceries), the companies said.
The prices may appeal Consumers tired of inflation who have been looking for great deals and ways to save money on grocery shopping over the past few months.
