Why doesn’t Walmart accept Google Pay or Apple Pay?

When it comes to technology, especially technology that makes our lives easier, I am all in. I have a smartwatch that connects to my smartphone. I have contactless payment connected to both, and I admit, I am a little Sci-fi thrillsl every time I use my watch to shop.

I pay with my phone or watch so often that I don’t always have my wallet with me if I don’t have to show ID when making a purchase.

Only Walmart Pay is allowed contactless.

Shopping made easy: Shoppers in Arizona prefer contactless payment

Nowadays, almost everyone accepts the most common contactless payment methods, such as Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

However, there is one retailer that has not made the switch, and Arizona shoppers are not happy about it. This is one of the growing number of reasons I’m tired of shopping with them.

Why Walmart doesn’t accept contactless payments

As one of the youngest retailers in the world, I am confused why Walmart refuses to accept most popular forms of contactless payment for purchases. They do not allow shoppers to use Google Pay or Apple Pay and insist that shoppers use their proprietary mobile payment app. Walmart Payment.

If you want to pay contactless at Walmart, you need to install another app on your phone and You can only use it at Walmart.

Target has its own system called Target Circle. Shoppers can link their debit card, bank account, or Target debit or credit card to the app and make purchases that way. In return, shoppers receive 5% off their total purchase, making switching a simple process.

However, if you do not want to install another payment app, Target also allows shoppers to use the most common contactless payment methods.

Less contact at Walmart in Arizona

Walmart has consistently chosen not to accept the most popular contactless payment methods, such as Google Pay and Apple PayInstead, Walmart is pushing shoppers to its own mobile payment solution, Walmart Pay.

Walmart Payment is the chain unique contactless payment optionIn this way, Walmart maintains control over its customers’ data and purchasing habits and uses this data for its marketing strategies. The internal system allows them to avoid paying third-party transaction fees.

Shoppers can still use credit and debit cards to make purchases, but if you want to use your preferred contactless system, you’re out of luck.

What shoppers think about Walmart Pay

Shoppers are not happy with the exclusive Walmart Pay system and often complain about the frustrating inconvenience. Many shoppers have criticized the company on social media.

Walmart is pushing back against the opposition and emphasizing the benefits of its proprietary system. At least the benefits for Walmart. Customers may disagree.
