Why Jason Kelce’s debut on Monday Night Football makes fans cry

Entertainment gossip and news from the Newsweek staff network

Much to the surprise of his fans, Jason Kelce buys his clothes at the mall just like the rest of us.

The former Philadelphia Eagles center is facing criticism from fans after revealing to viewers that he had to buy a jersey at the mall because he left his bag in the car while making his debut as an analyst on ESPN’s Monday evening countdown – the station’s preliminary reporting.

ESPN posted the hilarious clip from the episode on Instagram for its 27 million followers, captioning an image with a red arrow pointing to the gap in the 36-year-old’s shirt and the caption “Jason left his duffel bag in the car” above the image.

The network captioned the post, “Welcome to the Monday Night Countdown, Jason.” Naturally, fans and Jason’s brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, joked about the situation in the comments section.

Many fans wondered what Jason’s wife, Kylie Kelce, 32, thought about his wardrobe problem.

“We need to hear @kykelce’s opinion on this ASAP. 😅,” one user commented.

“Kylie is shaking her head right now,” someone joked.

This clothing mishap reminded some fans of an episode from The new heights Podcast where Jason jokingly accused his wife Kylie Kelce of not bringing him jeans in time for his green carpet. Travis asked his brother in the episode, “Why didn’t Jason bring jeans for Jason?”

“Why doesn’t Jason bring shirts… for Jason?” someone commented on the Instagram post.

“HOW COULD JASON NOT BRING A SHIRT FOR JASON,” wrote another user.

Travis, 34, poked fun at his older brother, commenting on the post, “Surprised he even bought a new one and didn’t just walk around shirtless.” The Ohio native was most likely referring to January, when Jason ripped off his shirt after Travis scored a touchdown during a Kansas City Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills.

Jason sat next to host and famous sportscaster Scott Van Pelt, as well as former NFL stars Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark on this episode. After Pelt listed some of Jason’s accolades, he told viewers about the wardrobe fiasco.

“Jason Kelce is wearing a shirt he bought at the mall because he left his duffel bag in the truck,” Van Pelt told viewers. “He left the bag in the truck.”
