Michigan Football honors former school sports advisor Greg Harden with a “G” in a heart sticker on the back of the helmet today during a game against Arkansas State (follow live updates) at Michigan Stadium.

Harden died this week following surgery. He was 75 years old.

Harden was dubbed Michigan’s “secret weapon” by CBS’ “60 Minutes” in 2014 and is credited with helping Tom Brady rise to prominence among many other athletes and staff. Harden was a school employee for 34 years from 1986 to 2019, then took on an advisory role in the athletic department.

He earned praise for helping the 2023 football team gain mental strength as its road to the national championship simmered with scandals and investigations.

Harden wrote a best-seller, published in 2023, called Stay Sane In An Insane World: How to Control the Controllables and Thrive. Brady wrote the foreword when the book debuted at No. 1 on Amazon and became a best-seller on the New York Times, USA TODAY, Wall Street Journal and Publishers Weekly lists.

“There is no one better than Greg Harden, and we as a Michigan family are devastated by this news,” UM athletic director Warde Manuel said in his statement Friday.

“You have inspired me with your ability to love everyone and everything unconditionally,” former UM quarterback JJ McCarthy wrote in a lengthy social media post.
