At first glance, the news that the sentencing in the New York criminal trial against Donald Trump has been set for after the presidential election seems to be a victory for Trump. However, it is also possible and even likely that Judge Merchan set the date for after the election because he had planned for “home confinement” or jail time for the verdict and he did not want such a dramatic verdict to influence the election.
