Why Wrigley Field holds a special place in the heart of “Ted Lasso” star Brendan Hunt

Whether it’s a football field or a baseball field – some people have a knack for everything.

Before the Cubs and Twins met on Wednesday, Brendan Hunt (actor and Chicago native, best known for his role as Coach Beard in the hit series “Ted Lasso”) threw out the first pitch.

Before his pitch, Hunt met Elise Menaker and reminisced about his childhood and the days when he attended games at Wrigley Field with his sister.

Hunt, who grew up on Chicago’s north side, detailed memories he and his sister had as children of being dropped off at Wrigley Field by their mother and stepfather every Saturday at 10 a.m. to watch a Cubs game from the stands.

“It’s exciting and an honor. I’ve been coming here since I was about four years old,” Hunt said when asked what it’s like to throw out the first pitch.

When Menaker asked him about other special memories of Wrigley Field, Hunt mentioned the time he spent working at the ballpark.

One season, while Hunt was selling beer and hot dogs at the kiosk, he met his roommate from his first two weeks of college.

As far as Hunt can remember, that was his last day of work there, because after that embarrassing encounter, his former roommate exclaimed, “Wow, I can’t believe I just bought a beer for a guy I roomed with in college!”

It’s safe to say that Hunt has had his fair share of success since that moment, as he now boasts Emmy wins as a writer and producer, as well as an Emmy nomination as an actor for his work on Ted Lasso.
