Wilderness Exchange and Black Diamond Equipment open new partner-operated Mountain Shop

Affordable outdoor retailer Wilderness Exchange is partnering with Black Diamond Equipment to open its first partnered mountain shop in North America at Wilderness Exchange’s headquarters in Denver, Colorado.

“The vision for the Black Diamond store in downtown Denver is to create something beyond the typical mono-brand store. It will be a full-service mountaineering specialty store, with other complementary brands to complete the offering,” said Don Bushey, owner of Wilderness Exchange Unlimited, in a press release.

The store will close on October 27 for renovations and reopen in early January 2025.

Wilderness Exchange’s thrift and consignment shop will expand at its current location, and the online store will continue to operate and offer next-day local pickup. The changes are an attempt to preserve the best elements of community-based outdoor retail while meeting the needs of today’s customers.

Neil Fiske, president of Black Diamond Equipment, said in a press release that the partnership aligns with the brand’s strategic priority of working closely with the specialty channel to grow alongside outdoor consumers.

“We are thrilled to partner with Don Bushey to bring together the best of Wilderness Exchange and Black Diamond in a modern format that honors the rich heritage of both brands,” said Fiske. “Don has long been a pioneer in the industry and we believe this next evolution of retail will prove to be as innovative and groundbreaking as his original concept.”
