Woman achieves best net result at Kahler tournament

ALAMOSA – For the first time in its history, the Alex P. Kahler Memorial Tournament was open to women.

One golfer benefited from the new addition, as Madeline Adam achieved the best net score in the championship match.

Adam, a native of Chandler, Arizona, who plays on the University of Hartford women’s golf team, had a net stroke of 137, five under par.

However, Adam did not get the top gross score, which went to former Alamosa High School player Brenden Crowther with a 142. Adam finished third in gross with a 147.

Carson Gylling finished second in gross with 146, followed by Adam and Challis Wright with 150.

Crowther was second in the net with 138, followed by Austin Heersink with 139. Gylling and Wright took fourth place with 142.

In the first flight, Austin Kelleher had the best gross score with 154 and the best net score with 140. Eddie Valdez was second in gross with 161 and third in net with 147. Anthony Romero was third in gross with 162 and second in net with 144. Ryan Werkmeister was fourth in gross with 163 and third in net with 147.

Colton Mellott had the best gross score of 150 and the best net score of 132 in the second flight. Jim Wright was second in both gross and net scores with 163 and 143, respectively. Keith Griggs was third in both gross and net scores with 164 and 146, respectively. Kevin Haas was fourth in both scores with 165 and 147, respectively.

In the third flight, Noel Thompson achieved the best gross score with 167 and the best net score with 139, Daniel Clark was second in gross with 169 and shared third place in net with 147. Edwardo Masias was third in gross with 170 and second in net with 144. Samuel Clark was fourth in gross with 175 and shared third place in net with 147.

Kade Jones won the gross in the fourth flight with 170 and was tied for first in the net with 138 points. Brandon Mizokami was second in the gross with 172 points and tied for first in the net with 138 points. Mark Kissel was third in both cases with 179 and 141 points, respectively. Doug Messick was fourth in the gross with 184 points and John DeHerrera was fourth in the net with 149 points.

The fifth flight was won by Matthew Blankenship with 181 gross and 135 net. Shannon Peirce finished second in gross with 195 and tied for third in net with 149. Paul New finished third in gross with 197 and tied for third in net with 149. Patrick Vigil finished fourth in gross with 201 and second in net with 145.

Grover Hathorn won the senior flight with 152, followed by Ken Madsen with 158 and Mitch Baker with 162.
