With grocery prices soaring, consumers are trying to save every penny. People have embraced every little trick creators share on social media with open arms. In the clip, the creator shows herself browsing through products, looking for the cheapest items available. She says she wanted to show people how she finds the right products to scan just by looking at them. Alex points to a box of Rice Krispies on the top shelf and says she knows it will be cheaper than its original price. She picks up the box and shows viewers the crucial indicator. She says it’s the picture of the Christmas tree on the box that gives it away. “I’m pretty sure these will be really cheap because they’re 75% off for Christmas,” she says.

The trick to getting cheaper products is to look for items that are out of season. She then says that these items are usually placed on the top shelves, probably because the workers have to make room for the newer products on the shelves. Alex then continues to look for more products that are still available and at cheaper prices.

She then comes across some tubs of Christmas ice cream. Although they were marked $2 on the shelf, when Alex scanned them, she found that they were being sold for just 50 cents. The next item was an ice cream Christmas tree, which was marked $4 but was on sale for just $1.24. She then comes across some Hershey’s Bells, which were marked $2 each. As expected, when Alex scanned the box at the register, they turned out to be on sale for just 50 cents.

“When you’re out and about after the holidays, you just scan everything that has something to do with the holidays,” she says as she loads her groceries into the car. She then explains that the trick to quickly scanning products is to use the Walmart app. Viewers in the comments section confirmed Alex’s theory, sharing that they, too, have found great deals after following her advice.

“I paid 1.32 for a WHOLE pumpkin pie lol I was so happy,” wrote user @whitaker02052021.

Meanwhile, some users have shared their own tricks for spotting and selling the cheaper items. “I take my big friend shopping with me. Otherwise I climb the shelves like a little boy,” user @cynturner906 shared. “I scan everything, I don’t care if there’s a price sticker right on it, I scan it anyway,” added another user @pamelalynn92.

While scanning items with the phone was successful for Alex and her viewers, things didn’t go so well for a man in Missouri. After a viral video claimed the man was bagging items at Walmart without scanning them, the shopper clarified that he was just doing his job.

Bill Astle, who worked for Spark, Walmart’s delivery service, told FirstAlert4 that as an employee, he was able to scan all items with his phone and did not have to scan anything at the self-checkout. He explained that all he had to do was scan his phone at the machine and pay for the items before bagging them. Astle said shoppers were expected to scan their phone into the self-checkout machine and then bag the items. This ultimately cleared him of any social media allegations.
