A woman who died when she became entangled in an airport baggage claim conveyor belt has been identified and photographed.

Virginia Vinton, 57, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, was found dead in a baggage carousel chute by a Chicago O’Hare International Airport employee on August 8.

Vinton’s cause of death was hanging and suffocation. Her identity was determined by the Cook County Coroner. Authorities say she committed suicide.

She was found by a Delta Air Lines baggage handler who had become “caught in a conveyor belt system in a baggage hold” in Terminal 5.

In a photo released by Wycliffe Ministry, Vinton is seen smiling alongside her husband Jim Vinton and her daughters Abby Vinton and Emily Vinton.

She was a missionary and mother of two children, the Daily Mail reported.

The Wycliffe Ministry profile of her and her husband states that they lived in Mozambique in East Africa for twelve years, “where they worked on two translation projects, Chuwabu and Sena.”

It says they served in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Pacific and that their children are named Abby and Emily.

According to the site, Jim became a translation consultant, providing final proofreading of translated Bible texts before they went to print. It says he works from North Carolina and travels to other parts of the world. Further details about his wife’s work are not given.

“Join Jim and Virginia and spread God’s truth to the millions of people around the world who do not yet know His Word,” the site says.

Video surveillance footage last showed a woman “entering an unoccupied restricted area” at 2:27 a.m. on August 8, police said. The space, near an international flight terminal, was closed to the public.

Vinton was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident; his identity could not be immediately determined, but it quickly became apparent that he was not an airport employee.
