Woman reports attack in Walmart parking lot in West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A 47-year-old woman said a man attacked her with a stun gun and took her phone in the west side Walmart parking lot where they had arranged to meet Wednesday afternoon, according to West Lafayette police.

An examination of the woman’s statements revealed that she had not been stunned by the handgun, police said Thursday morning when the Journal & Courier asked for an update. However, the woman clearly appeared to have been involved in a scuffle, according to police.

After the argument, the woman ran to the Quality Inn and flagged down a motorist on Cumberland Avenue, who called police. The woman was not injured, but she showed signs of having been in a physical fight with someone, police said.

The woman told police she met Andrew Edward Fryk, 35, of Lafayette, around 1:10 p.m. Wednesday in the north part of the parking lot near Cumberland Avenue and across from the Quality Inn, police said. They met so he could return her cellphone, police said.

After the woman broke free from Fryk, he ran into the wooded area around Celery Bog, police said.

The officers found the stun gun and Fryk in the forest, police said.

At the end of the investigation, officers arrested Fryk on suspicion of domestic violence. He remained in custody on bail Thursday morning, according to online jail records.
