Victory number 50 and home advantage
The Chucks played their last regular season game today in Kenosha and won 5-3. Tomorrow the Chucks will play in Madison.
The Chucks fell behind after allowing a run in each of the second and fourth innings. Starter Edwin Alicea (Nova Southeastern) left the game after pitching 3.1 innings. He was replaced by Logan Butler (Keiser U). Butler got the last two outs of the 4th.th.
The Chucks scored one in the 5th.th after Jake Berkland (Mankato) hit home Hayden Christiansen, who had opened the inning with a single. The Chucks were down 1-2.
Butler kept the Kingfish scoreless through the 5th and 6th Innings. The Chucks tied the game with a hit by Val Cerna Jr., who hit a solo hit to right field in the 7th inning.thThe home run was his second of the season.
After hitting the first batter in the 7thBulter came off for Carson Hawkes (Utah St. Eastern). He let a man go home with the bases loaded and the Chucks once again trailing 2-3. Jonathon Amonica (Keiser U) came in with the bases still loaded and got a strikeout.
The Chucks crossed another one in the 8th when Jake Berkland (Mankato) scored with a sacrifice fly RBI from Vance Sheahan. Amonica came in for the 8th.th. With the bases troubled, Sheahan hit a home run to get a runner on and keep the Kingfish off the board. The score was 3-3 after eight.
The Chucks regained the lead after Samuel Fischer (FIU) singled to score Christian Smith-Johnson (Texas A&M Corpus-Christi). Drew Berkland (U of M) followed with another single and scored for his brother Jake. Chucks led 5-3, Amonica came back in the second half.
The Chucks begin their playoffs tomorrow in Madison. They will play the last two games of the first series against Madison in Wausau. The best of three players will decide who will play in the Great Lakes Championship game.
