Woodleigh MRT station opens after 8 years

Woodleigh MRT station opens after 8 years

Eight years after its development, Woodleigh MRT station finally opened yesterday.

However, the first day of operation at Woodleigh caused confusion among several commuters.

Passengers were surprised by the new stop between Serangoon and Potong Pasir stations and got off at Woodleigh although they actually wanted to get off at Serangoon.

The recently opened station is located between Serangoon and Potong Pasir stations on the North East Line (NEL). Its opening coincided with the operation of the 16 stations on the same line.

According to SBS Transit, the operator of the NEL, around 1,400 passengers had already entered or left the station by 1 p.m. yesterday.

Woodleigh station has been closed since the opening of the NEL due to low commuter traffic in the area.

Former Transport Minister Raymond Lim announced in March that the station would open in June. Several new construction projects are coming up in the area, including the Stamford American International School, which is scheduled to open in August and is expected to accommodate over 3,000 students.

New condominiums in the area include 8 @ Woodleigh, Blossoms @ Woodleigh and Parc Mondrian.
