Work continues on the million Mountain Home, Arkansas community and aquatic center

MOUNTAIN HOME, Arkansas (KY3) – Residents of Mountain Home, Arkansas are excited about a new community and aquatic center scheduled to be completed in the next few years.

Where construction machinery, concrete and steel are currently stored, a campus with three buildings will soon be built.

A gymnasium is being built on the right side of the complex.

“There are three basketball courts. There will be a pickleball court on top of that, there will be volleyball courts and there will be an elevated running track above the gym floor,” said Mayor Hillrey Adams.

The left side of the complex will be the interior area of the aquatics center.

“There will be three pools. There will be a therapy pool, a wading pool and a competition pool,” Mayor Adams explained.

There are office spaces in the middle of the building, but behind them is the outdoor water attraction.

“There will be water slides, a lazy river and a simple paddling pool,” the mayor said.

The nearly $38 million construction project is being financed thanks to the sales tax increase passed by voters several years ago.

“We passed a three-quarterly sales tax in 2021, which went into effect in August of that year,” Adams explained.

The community is excited about the new addition to their town and expects it to be widely used by residents throughout the region.

“We are so lucky with our parks. This one is going to be incredible,” said Mountain Home resident Nita Swearingen. “The use will far exceed our expectations.”

Swearingen, who has lived in Mountain Home most of her life and seen the city’s various pools over the years, says this one will be the nicest yet.

“I’ve been swimming in the old parks since 1965, in Hickory Park, then of course we got the beautiful pool in Cooper, but we’ve outgrown that too,” Swearingen said.

The mayor hopes to be able to swim in one of the swimming pools by spring 2026.
