While promoting his latest film, Speak No Evil, McAvoy addressed the possibility that Marvel Studios could recast the role, hinting at a new direction for the X-Men in the MCU. James McAvoy does not expect to reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X, in the MCU as he believes the character will be recast.

In an interview with BuzzFeed UK, while promoting his new film Speak No Evil, McAvoy said: “That’s very nice. Although I suspect that with both Mr. Tumnus in Narnia and Charles Xavier from the X-Men, we’ll see someone else in those roles.”

Since Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Marvel fans have been eagerly awaiting the MCU debut of the X-Men. McAvoy’s comments suggest that Marvel Studios may be planning to recast these roles rather than bring back former actors. The studio has not yet confirmed any casting or release dates for the new X-Men films, so the direction of the franchise is uncertain.

McAvoy also stars in the psychological thriller Speak No Evil, which received positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. The film has a Metascore of 63 from 21 critic reviews, reflecting mixed but mostly positive reactions, and a rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating strong early reception.

Directed by James Watkins, Speak No Evil is about an American family who are invited to a British estate. Their vacation turns into a gripping psychological thriller. The film, which will be released on September 13, 2024, stars McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy. Initial reviews praise both the direction and McAvoy’s performance as outstanding elements.
