Yamal 10, Raphinha 9.5 | Girona 1-4 Barcelona: Player ratings

On Sunday, Barcelona faced Girona in the first Catalan derby of the season at the Estadi Montilivi. Hansi Flick’s team continued their good winning streak and took all three points with a good performance.

Lamine Yamal opened the scoring after half an hour with a beautiful solo effort and doubled the lead less than ten minutes later with a converted long-range shot.

Dani Olmo added a third goal for Barcelona a few minutes after the restart with a magnificent finish, reaffirming his team’s dominance and silencing Montilivi before Pedri punished the hosts again to make it 4-0.

With his substitute goal, Christian Stuani scored the consolation goal for Girona, as the result was already decided.

Barça Universal brings you the player ratings for Barcelona’s victory in the Catalan derby.

Marc-André ter Stegen: 7

Although ter Stegen’s weaknesses have been widely debated, the German star shone against Girona with three saves, including two from inside the box in the first half.

Made a hasty, unnecessary run, left the goal unoccupied and gifted the home team a goal.

Alejandro Balde: 7.5

The Spanish full-back once again had the freedom to push forward in attack and stretch Girona’s defense on the left.

Although he did not pose a major threat in the final third, his performance in the first half was notable for winning 100% of his challenges and he improved significantly in attack after the break.

Inigo Martinez: 8

The veteran stepped up and led the defense from the front, hampering Girona’s forwards in many of their attacking attempts, making four clearances, stopping one shot and winning one challenge to help his team to victory.

Paul Cubarsi: 6

It was a bizarre evening for Cubarsi, who made just one defensive save in the 60 minutes he was on the field. He didn’t make many mistakes and was confident in possession, but wasn’t called into action half as often as he would have liked.

Jules Kounde: 8.5

The Frenchman played solidly in the first half, dribbling past once but being reliable in defence. His big moment in the game, however, came early in the second half when he found a perfectly weighted ball over the top that set up Dani Olmo.

A well-rounded and mature performance from Pedri shows once again that he understands what the coach expects of him. He managed two successful dribbles and one important pass and completed 90% of his passes on the evening.

He scored the 4-0 for the Catalans with an ice-cold finish, taking the ball past the goalkeeper and calmly pushing it into the goal.

Marc Casado: 8.5

Casado remains calm even under pressure and distributes the ball precisely. He was well positioned as a starting player on the circle. He dominated the duels in midfield and held his position confidently.

Scored his first assist of the season with a sensational through ball to Pedri, breaking through Girona’s defense.

Raphinha: 9.5

Continuing where he left off before the break, Raphinha was also at his best in the derby, lurking in the spaces behind the striker and confusing the defense with his tricky runs.

Finished the game with four key passes, one great chance and two accurate crosses.

Daniel Olmo: 8.5

Olmo celebrates his goal against Girona.

The new signing looked out of form in the first half, was largely disjointed and managed just 17 passes in 45 minutes. Olmo was no threat in the box and looked rusty after his minor injury.

After the break, he turned his fortunes around by firing a rocket shot past Gazzaniga from a seemingly impossible angle, but it ended with a seemingly awkward shot.

Lamin Jamal: 10

Lamine Yamal, the star player, is simply unstoppable. The young man was the hero of the night, scoring a phenomenal double in the first half to give his team a 2-0 lead at half-time.

In the 30th minute, the youngster stole the ball from Girona’s defense, beat Paulo Gazzaniga from close range and fired a long-range shot nine minutes later.

He shone with his combination play and led the counterattacks for Barcelona.

Robert Lewandowski: 7

In his 100th game as a FC Barcelona player, Lewandowski had a positive first half, crowned with an assist for Lamine Yamal’s second goal of the evening.

Had a sensational chance to score after just under an hour, but was unable to take advantage of this special opportunity.

Eric Garcia: 8

He did well in defensive midfield and even earned the love of the fans he represented last season.

Hector Fort: 6.5

The defender’s first minutes of the season and he didn’t do much wrong.

Ferran Torres: 4

He was not as involved in the game as he would have liked and did not pose much of a threat in the box. Was unnecessarily sent off towards the end of the game.

Paul Victor: 6

He was confident in possession of the ball and almost scored a goal in the 82nd minute, but narrowly missed the goal.
