Yellville, Arkansas: Daycare owner charged after two children ate marijuana gummy bears

MARION COUNTY, Arkansas (KY3) – An Arkansas woman has been charged after two children became ill from eating marijuana gummy bears.

According to Arkansas court records, 58-year-old Tamantha McPherson is charged with two counts of introducing a controlled substance into the body of another person and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.

Investigators say the parents of a two-year-old girl picked her up from daycare on April 3 and noticed she wasn’t acting like herself. They took her to the hospital and lab tests revealed the girl had marijuana in her system.

The parents told authorities they did not have any marijuana in the house. According to court documents, the parents said McPherson did not have the authority to administer drugs to the child without their consent.

On April 5, authorities received another call about a second victim at a daycare. These parents reported to authorities that their 15-month-old son was misbehaving when they picked him up from daycare.

They took the child to a pediatrician who performed a blood test. The result was positive for marijuana. These parents also told investigators that there was no marijuana in their home.

According to court documents, authorities questioned McPherson. She said she took THC gummy bears and kept them in the kitchen area.

Authorities say this is the same area where the daycare children hang out, eat and play. She told investigators there are about eight children in the daycare.

McPherson also told investigators that she buys the gummy bears in Missouri and then brings them back to Arkansas.
