As GameRant reports, the cloud service Antstream Arcade will find its way onto PlayStation consoles on September 6. This will give players the opportunity to enjoy over 1,300 retro titles on PlayStation – either in subscription form or via a one-time purchase.

Was that Antstream Arcade? This is how those responsible describe it: “Whether it’s the 70s, 80s or 90s – retro fans can immediately play fully licensed gems of gaming history such as Ikari Warriors, Joe & Mac, California Games, Zool and Double Dragon without lengthy downloads or emulators.”

Without downloads? Of course, that only works via the cloud. “Once installed and an account created, players just have to select their favorite title and get started,” is the promise. Antstream was originally funded via Kickstarter in 2019.

The retro gaming service is also currently available on mobile devices via the Google Play Store and iOS App Store, as well as on Samsung TVs. Access to the original PC version can be purchased directly from Antstream’s official website or the Epic Games Store. As of October 2022, the service is also listed as “coming soon” on Steam.

PlayStation players will have the option to subscribe to the service for $39.99 per year or pay a one-time fee of $99.99 for lifetime use.

Antstream Arcade is officially billing its PlayStation launch as a continuation of its attempt to preserve gaming classics. The majority of Antstream Arcade’s current library consists of Commodore 64 games, of which there are currently 358. ZX Spectrum and arcade machines are the next two most represented platforms on the service, with 351 and 293 games respectively. Antstream Arcade’s content catalog expands fairly regularly, with new titles usually added every week. Games are occasionally removed, but this is relatively rare.

What the exact pricing will be in this country remains unclear for the time being – but it is likely to be based on US prices.
